Botox® is the trade name for Botulinum Toxin. It is a purified protein form of botulinum toxin that is injected into muscles and acts by blocking the neurotransmission of the nerves to the muscles. Essentially, it temporarily relaxes muscles which decreases contractions. You will see results gradually over 3-7 days following injection, and the effects of treatment typically last around 3-4 months.
Botox® is often injected into various facial points to block nerve signals to specific muscles. Repeated contraction of facial muscles can lead to lines and wrinkles. Once injected, the targeted muscle relaxes and decreases its movement, which reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and creates an overall smoother appearance. Since dentists have more experience than most Botox providers what makes a great smile, and because they are highly trained in facial structure and facial anatomy, they are especially qualified to administer Botox®.
